Is Spotting After Sex Normal?

I am 21 and 140 lbs. I have been on generic Seasonale for about one month and am bleeding after intercourse. I understand that breakthrough bleeding is common for this type of birth control. I'd just like to know if spotting ONLY AFTER sex is normal as well.

Hi,
I have gone through the query and understood your concern. You did not mention your height to know if you are in the normal range of BMI. Breakthrough bleeding, early and/or prolonged periods, missed periods, intermenstrual spotting are the possible presentation seen with hormone contraceptives during the initial months of use. As the body gets adjusted to the new hormone milieu, these symptoms subside. Spotting after intercourse or "post-coital bleeding" is not normal and calls for an examination by an expert. You should get a speculum examination, exclude cervicitis/vaginitis by swab test, erosion of the cervix and polyps. A pap smear and if needed, a colposcopy should be done. A sonogram of the pelvis, preferably in the trans-vaginal route is to be done to exclude any pelvic pathology as the cause. Hope this helps.
