Is Spinal Tap Required To Look For CLL Cells In The Spinal Fluid?
I have been diagnosed with CLL from a bone marrow biopsy. I have been treated for te past two years for hearing loss and balance problems. I had cataract surgery in my left eye 2010. A month later I went blind in the eye. Partial vision returned after hospitalization and 1ooo mg prednisone IV. I was placed on a prednisone taper starting at 80mg / day. Slow improvement followed untill i got to 10 mg then my vision stsrted to slowly get worse. My doctors have not been able to connect these symptoms. Do I need a spinal tap to look for CLL cells in the spinal fluid as a posssible cause and connection? The vision problems are great concern. I think both eyes are affected. I can't read books newspapers or drive.

it is unusual for CLL perse to affect brain. but giving the recent vision problem and improvement with steroid, its advisable to do lumbar puncture. i would like to do MRI as well. you have some CNS symptoms since two years, need to get a diagnostic imaging.
