Is Sore Throat With Pus Indicative Of Tonsillitis?

I have had a cough, sore throat, pain in my ears, headache from coughing so hard since Sept.1. I went to the walk in clinic she stated I had puss on my one tonsil, my throat was a little red, I have fluid in both ears. I was tested for strep it was negative. I am on Amox-Clav 875mg/125mg (1 po q 12 h) and benzonate 200mg (1 po tid) I don't feel like I am getting better any other suggestions?

Hi..
Thanks for the query..

Your symptoms looks like viral throat infection with secondary bacterial infection..
You can be advised to take antibiotics and can continue Amox-clav and along with it take Ibuprofen and continue Benzonatate..
Along with it you can also gargle with warm salt water, do antiseptic mouthwash gargles and suck throat lozenges..
You should drink warm water..
Do steam inhalation and use a humidifier as it also soothe your throat..
You should avoid spicy and chilled foods..

Hope this helps..

Regards.
