Is Sore Throat A Side Effect Of Ramapril?
My husband had quadruple heart bypass surgery 5 years ago. He is on ramapril 2.5mg twice a day, atenolol 25mg once a day, atorvastatin 80mg once. A day, 75mg dispensable aspirin once a day and omeprazole 20mg once a day. My husband is coughing constantly which I assume must be a side effect of the ramapril. The problem is that he gets a re curring sore throat. He now struggles to swallow his food which sometimes get stuck in his throat. He has to keep taking fluids to get his food down. The tip do his nose and ear lobes look red and inflamed. My husband is only 61 years old and doesn t have a weight problem. Our GP doesn t seem concerned about these symptoms. Please help

The persistent coughing would contribute to his sore throat and also to the discoloration.
The ramipril should be changed. Patients who experience persistent coughing due to this family of medication (ACE inhibitors), normally have them changed .
ARBs are used when the ACE drug family like ramipril ( causes coughing or swelling) eg micardis, diovan, atacand
He should not have to deal with the chronic coughing.
