Is Smoking During Pregnancy Harmful For The Child?

Hi i am 34 weeks pregnant and i Quit smoking as soon as i found out i was pregnant with my second child. I have started up again probably the last 5 weeks 5-7 a day some times less! I feel so horrible about this. My family and i have suffered a huge lose in the last 3 years , My brother at the age of 25 suddenly became seriously ill and passed away. He was the only boy and now my family and i are excited to be expecting a boy soon and i am so worried about suffering another loss that i have started smokng again and its probably the worst thing i could do!

All my check ups and ultrasounds have been perfect and no problems so far, Just nervous and worried!

Well... at 34 weeks, you aren't going to be seriously premature.
Frankly, the worst is yet to come. Smoking hugely increases the risk of childhood asthma (after birth of course!)
First step is realizing the value of quitting.
THen, nicotine replacement and this includes nicotine BLOCKING with chantix doubles the likelihood quitting will be successful
third is a variety of techniques to overcome triggers:
1) setting a quit date (delivery comes to mind....)
2) telling the entire family (and religious group, and other groups) when the quit date is.
3) geting cigarettes, lighters, ashtrays out of the house before the quit date.
4) (and this is my invention) put sticky notes up everywhere and everytime you had an urge to smoke and didn't. You soon get surrounded by triggers that you can quit !
hope this is helpful!
