Is Smoking Cigar While On A Cardiac Stent Dangerous?

What is danger of occasional (monthly) cigar after stent put in LAD? I ve already changed diet, lost weight, taking medicine for cholesterol, blood thinner, beta blocker. Easy Answer is no cigars, but I d like to hear if that is real, or moderate cigar use is supportable because I see a lot less healthy people than me living care free. I m jealous and I really miss my cigar time ( not talking about going back to 4/day...just 1/month).

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Coronary stenting is a procedure that opens narrowed or blocked coronary arteries by placing a 'stent', which is a small, metal mesh tube that expands inside a coronary artery. Since smoking is a proven risk factor for coronary artery disease and you have been already been placed with stent, you need to quit smoking completely, or else it would increase the risk of blocking other blood vessels which would be supplying the heart.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Ashakiran S.
