Is Shingles A Contagious Disease?

My 35 year old daughter has hashimotos and was just diagnosed with shingles. She started an anti viral but I am concerned for her as well as her 16 month old daughter that she is still nursing. How contagious is she to the baby if not exposed directly to the rash?

Hello dear mommy,
I completely understand your concern regarding your daughter and the baby.
Your daughter must be on valtrex for the treatment. There is no harm in breastfeeding the child. Just keep the rash covered. the contagious virus can spread through the blisters.

Hope she gets better real soon. Take care
