Is severe abdominal bloating due to lactose intolerance?

i believe i have developed lactose intolerence. it started around 6 mths ago. first just the cramping, then belching then distended stomach will horrible gas. i avoided dairy when finally pinpointing the cause. if i want to eat dairy i take the supplements. depends on what type of dairy as to the amount i have to take. my question is this past week i have felt so bloated and uncomfortable. i did eat small amount of dairy earlier in the week..wo meds...then if i ate anymore later i took meds...but i have gotten no relief this week. ive had terrible gas , which will normally last a day or 2 then ill feel better and my stomach will go down...but ihv had no relief i just feel so bloated and uncomfortable could i hv food allergies also or celiec disease also? is there a prescription medicine for lactose intollerance?

Hello,

Lactose intolerance is increasing day by day and you are getting resistant to the supplements you are taking. The best thing you can do is to avoid such foods and try fructose based foods than sucrose based. You understand that since your body is not tolerating you need to take foods that suit your body and lifestyle. Celiac disease can distinguish without the colonoscopy. If there is anything positive finding noted, then you can get treatment accordingly but for now it's only up to you have a look at your diet and take care of your health.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Dr. Archana
