Is Running Safe While On Oral Antibiotics For A 12 Year Old Girl?

My 12 year old is healing on 7th day of 10 day oral antibiotics and drops from ear infection and busted eardrum. She s been out of soccer until last night. She felt it throbbing inside after running around so she sat out until it subsided. Is it safe to run around?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for posting in HCm.
I understand your concern.
Although the secretions have subsided while on antibiotics for ear infection following busted ear drum, it is advisable not to go for sporting activities till a minimum of 2 weeks.
This is because, complete healing and recovery from inside will be complete by 2 weeks. Only after that, regular sporting activities can be resumed. However, she can do all the routine work for now as usual.
Make sure that the tympanic membrane is healed and closed completely by otoscopic examination from an ENT surgeon before resuming such sporting activities. Otherwise, there is always a chance for reinfection, which could later affect her hearing.
Hope the information provided would be helpful.
All the best.
