Is Pulse Rate Of 137 A Cause For Concern?

My wife has a pulse rate of 137, a blood pressure of 116/61. Her family has a history of heart problems, her uncle and father having heart attacks. She says she keeps getting dizzy, should she be concerned? Should she go to a immediate care center, or Emergency Room?

Welcome to HCM and thanks for choosing me as your physician. I have gone through your wife's history and keeping in mind all the details of the family history and risk factors it is highly recommended to take her to ER if there is some pain in chest or excessive shortness of breath for no reason.

If no such complaints, then you may make an appointment with a cardiologist for in-office visit to get complete evaluation and cardiac work up.

So it is obvious, she needs immediate care and evaluation of the heart, through ER or through a cardiologist.

What may be the cause?
Anemia and low hemoglobin.
Cardiac arrhythmias (heart is out of rhythm to pump blood).
Coronary artery disease (blood supply to heart itself is not sufficient).

They will do some basic blood tests and then an EKG, Exercise tolerance test, angiography (if needed), Echocardiography etc.
