Is Pregnancy Possible While On An Expired Mirena IUD?

I ve had my Mirena IUD in since dec. 2008. I haven t got my period back, which I don t mind one bit, so my dr said we could just leave it until that happens. However, I m wondering if it will still prevent pregnancy. When I saw my dr I wasn t sexually active, so I didn t think to ask. If I m not getting my period, does that mean the IUD is still working?

Hi I think you can become pregnant if your mirena has expired. If you are not getting your periods, do a urine pregnancy test to rule out pregnancy first. Get the mirena out and insert a new one if you don't want pregnancy. Hope it helps.
