Is Pregnancy Possible Despite Being On Birth Control Pills?

I m on birth control. Last week my period was a day or 2 late & ended quicker than usual. Then I missed the first pill of pack afterward on Sunday. Tuesday & had a hot flash & vomited. Afterward until today uterine cramping & light spotting. Lower back pain Thursday. Some queasiness & lightheadedness. Pain is gone today, but my uterus feels tight/full. Took pregnancy test last night, negative. Not sure what to think.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
I have read your description and understand your concern.
Skipping dose of birth control pills and having unprotected intercourse always carries a risk of conceiving. Hence, it is strictly recommended to take the pill at proper time everyday without missing even a single dose.
In any case, you can be protected against pregnancy this time by taking emergency contraceptive pill within 72 hours of the unprotected intercourse. If the time has passed beyond that, you need continue taking pills regularly and wait till you get your periods.
It is advisable to use condoms and spermicidal agents in case you are indulging in intercourse till the time you get your next periods.
If there is delay in getting your periods this time, kindly take a urine pregnancy test and consult Gynecologist for evaluation and further management.
Hope the information provided would be helpful.
All the best.
