I am 19, 5 weeks pregant and have a scoliosis condition and my boyfriend has sickle cell trait. I am not sure if I plan to continue the pregnancy and my boyfriend thinks it best we do not. Want to know how the 2 conditions may affect the pregnancy and unborn child.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

A genetic testing of your blood sample is required to check whether you are sickle cell carrier or not.

Scoliosis is not a contraindication for pregnancy. Difficult delivery must be anticipated and a good quality centre must be preferred for delivery.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr. Shinas Hussain, General & Family physician
