Is Plan B Necessary After Condom Burst During Intercourse?

My girlfriend and I had sex, and I came a bit into the condom (as in I pulled out to try to stop it and just a tiny bit went into the tip). We decided to keep going, and when we finished I checked the condom to see if the outside smelled like semen (as I always do as a cautionary procedure), but she had given me one of those flavored ones, so all I could smell was overpowering orange and latex. She isn t on the pill, so would it be advised to go with planb?

Hi,
Thanks for writing in.

If you tried having condom sex and the condom broke when it was still inside your partner then taking a plan B is better. This is an emergency pill and should be taken when accidents like these happen. The plan B must be taken as early possible because after 24 hours following sex, the efficacy of emergency pills decreases. Please keep in mind that plan B should be taken only in emergency as this time and not regularly. It contains a high dose of hormones and can cause several side effects like ovarian cysts and irregular cycles. After taking plan B your partner may have early or delayed bleeding for two cycles. Taking the plan B will give more than 95 percent protection if taken within 3 hours after condom break.
