Is Peeling Skin On Tongue Suggestive Of Vitamin Deficiency?

The mucosa is peeling off my tongue. I have had acid reflux for a long time, which has been getting worse. But my gastroenterologist says acid reflux does not cause peeling to tongue. I've also heard peeling tongue can be caused by vitamin deficiency. But I was supplementing my diet with 4 to 6 bottles of ensure a day, and those have all sorts of vitamins. Ive had this condition for 6 months now. What else could be causing this?

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain if you have acid reflux and the acid refluxes to the level that it comes to your mouth too then it can cause damage and peeling of the tongue mucosa..
Secondly deficiency of Iron and Vitamin B12 can also cause similar peeling..
I would suggest you to consult an Oral Physician and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation and investigations like complete blood picture can help in diagnosis and treatment can be done accordingly..
You can be advised proper oral and injectable nutritional supplements as per the requirement..
Along with it also avoid taking ecess of tart candies, drink plenty of water, do warm saline gargles..
In case if you have dryness in mouth you can chew sugarfree chewing gums..
For acid reflux I would suggest you to consult a Gastroenterologist and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation and investigations like upper G.I Endoscopy can help in diagnosis and treatment can be done accordingly..
You can be advised to take Proton Pump Inhibitors like Omeprazole or Pantoprazole..
Take antacids like Milk of magnesia..
Avoid spicy food and drink plenty of water..
Always take walk after meals and take your dinner atleast 2 hours before sleep..
You should sleep with head slightly raised as compared to feet..
Try loosing weight if you are obese..

Hope this helps..

Regards.
