Is Painful Swelling In The Knee A Concerning Matter?
Hello last night I attempted a backflip and landed on my knee pretty hard after a 5 minute period it began to hurt and swell up today it is still swollen a fair amount I can still walk and bend my leg with only a little pain it does not hurt to much however there is quite amount of swelling still and when I bend my knee it feels tight what do you think I have done and should I be worried and go to hospital
It seems that you have a bit of fluid collection around your knee due to the injury. As you don't have much pain and you are able to walk, I don't think you have any serious injury. I recommend: -Avoid strain on the injured knee. -Keep knees slightly bent whole standing. Don't lock the knee. Don't stand for too long. -Keep knees at 90 degrees while sitting. -Apply local anti-inflammatory ointment in a gentle circular motion after hot pack application. Apply ice pack after an hour of this. Do this thrice a day.
These measures should help with reducing the swelling. If you develop severe pain, redness, see your doctor right away. Else it will take 7-10 days for the swelling to reduce substantially.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Shuba Hariprasad
