Is Painful Pimple On Face A Cause For Concern?

I have what I thought was a pimple on my right cheek. It showed up Wednesday of this week and I began rubbing it Thursday as it was uncomfortable (no pain at that time). As I was rubbing it, the skin appeared to opened up into a sore and some puss came out. It then began to get painful with some swelling. It actually looks like it has formed a small blood clot inside middle of it. It is causing the entire upper part of my face to feel tender and sore to the touch. My eye feels slightly swollen as well. What could this be? Is it serious? I also just found out a week ago that I m pregnant and I was reading that changes in hormones can cause acne for sure. Do you think this is related? I don t normally have acne/skin problems. Concerned - AB

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain it seems that you had a pus filled pimple over the face and as you tried to pop it, it became an inflamed and further infected ulcer and inflammation and infection is a cause for tenderness, swelling and pain..
As you are pregnant there is also a limit under which only a few antibiotics and painkillers can be advised to you..
I would suggest you to consult a Dermatologist and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation can be diagnostic..
He can advise you to take antibiotics like Amoxicillin and painkillers like Acetaminophen..
Cleaning the area with antiseptic solution and applying antibiotic ointment can help in faster healing..
Do cool compresses to reduce inflammation..
