Is Pain And Swelling In Elbow Due To Hairline Fracture?

6year old grandson who is very tall for age, complained of sore elbow on Friday he fell twice from flying fox at school and landed on same elbow. On inspection, no heat, no apparent swelling. can wiggle fingers except the two middle ones cause some discomfort, didn't want to go to cricket training that he loves so that was unusual, overnight he slept OK said there was some pain though not excruciating he keeps holding it though he has it in a sling, and I noticed a small amount of swelling in the morning yesterday, Parents are a little concerned, but distracted, however Nanny is a little more as it is his right arm? could it be a hairline fracture or something to do with his connective tissues? worried Nanny!

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Brief Answer:
Requires an x-ray elbow for assessment.

Detailed Answer:
Warm Welcome. I appreciate your trust in HCM and assure you are on best portal on the globe for expert online medical services.

I have thoroughly reviewed health query you raised, and well realize all of those concerns. Being your physician, I will take care all of them today and will extend my expertise to solve the problems.

Based on what you said, your grandson needs an x-ray elbow to look for any possible fracture. As elbow fracture is common in childhood, it is imperative that your grandson visit a nearby orthopaedic clinic.

If a fracture is ruled out, then it can be a soft tissue injury and requires bed rest along with syrup ibuprofen.

Hope I addressed all the concerns you have. Let me know if you have further questions. I will be more than happy to clear any doubts. Keep a follow up to see how you doing.

Regards!
