Is Open-heart Surgery Advisable For An Octogenarian With A History Of Kidney Problems And Heart Attack?

Hello - my grandmother is currently in surgery for open heart - I am just wondering how long this procedure takes and given her age of 87 - and apparently prior to surgery - her kidneys weren t functioning 100%... about 3 months ago - she had a heart attack - and was recussed ??? will you survive on the table

Hi and welcome to HCM. Your grand mothers age itself is a big risk factor for any major surgeries, but her doctors have assessed the benefits of surgery against the risk involved. According to my knowledge and based on the details u have given it appears for me that she can go for surgery. But do remember for any patient to undergo open heart surgery a thorough examination and a series of tests are necessary which probably her treating doctors would have done ad\nd decided for surgery.
