Is Numbness In The Lips And Chin After Jaw Surgery Normal?

I had jaw surgery and my right lip and chin has numbness. I had surgery 3 weeks ago going on 4 weeks this upcoming Sunday. Surgery went well but just wondering if the feeling will come back completely in my lip and chin? And how long will the pain last for in my chin?

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

So sorry to hear about your problem and will try my level best to resolve it..

As per your complain it seems that during jaw surgery there has been injury to the nerve supplying the lip and chin area and due to it there has been numbness of the areas supplied by the nerves injured..

As it is already about a month passed when you had jaw surgery, in case if the injury would be minor, the sensations would have returned by now..
But in case if the symptoms still did not improve, you need to consult a Neurophysician and get evaluated and an MRI scan can be done for ruling out the extent of injury..

In case if there is complete severing of breakage of the nerve then unfortunately the numbness will not subside..

As of now start taking Vitamin B complex supplements and also start doing alternate warm and cool compresses over the numb areas for relief.

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
