Is Nose Bleed Along With Migraine A Serious Medical Condition?

My husband has had 2 separate episodes today of pain behind his right eye that he describes as a "headache" behind his eye accompanied by nosebleeds out of the right nare. The epitaxis was limited and stopped within a few minutes. He has a history of migraine and is controlled with Maxalt. Could the nose bleed be associated with the migraine or something more serious. His CBC is normal and his platlet count is normal. He does not have a history of hypertension.

Hello,

There are many conditions that cause eye pain and nosebleed. Nose bleeding is rarely related to migraine attacks. Pain behind the eye and nosebleed, seem more to be a cluster headache or trigeminal pain.

First of all, I suggest you measure his blood pressure when he has these episodes because an increase in blood pressure could be accompanied by a headache, and nose bleeding.

If the nose bleeding is limited, and he doesn't have other episodes the next days, I think you don't have to be concerned.

If the pain continues, it is necessary to have a thorough evaluation with an ophthalmologist or otolaryngologist done.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
