Is Mometasone Effective For Cystic Acne?

I have cystic acne. I developed a large painful cyst on my cheek and was injected with kenalog by my dermatologist one week ago. The inflammation reduced but is now flaring back up in the same area with a smaller tender bump below it. I cannot get back to the deem this weekend and I have a major event in 2 days. Can I put mometasone cream on it? Will this topical steroid at least reduce the inflammation immediately?

Hi,

Thanks for asking your question on Health care Magic.

As you have mentioned that you have cystic acne, Intra lesional injection of diluted triamcinolone (kenalog) is a good treatment, But should be followed up with further sittings in the gap of 15 to 30 days (as suggested by your doctor).
As per your question, since you have a major event you can apply mometasone (which has to be used under the supervision of doctor) with the following caution:
1) Use mometasone in very less amount
2) Do not use it for more than 2 days.
3) You will notice a drastic effect after using it, but it shouldn't be continued.
4) Mometasone per se is not a treatment of acne.
