hello
Mirtazapine is neither SSRI nor MAO inhibitor. It is an alpha 2 receptor antagonist and has its anti depressant and anti anxiety effect through a unique mechanism of action called GLUTAMATE INHIBITION. It is a good drug but with some side effects like weight gain and somnolence. You might not have responded either because you are not responsive due to genetic make up or the dose is inadequate. Yet, paroxetine is a better drug for anxiety , may be you need higher doses.
