Is Mild Chest Pain In A GERD Patient A Concern?

60 year old Male, generally in good health, although I do suffer from GIRD from time to time. Earlier today I developed a dull ache on the right side of my chest, just below the breast. on a scale of 1-10, pain is in the 1-2 category; it s more annoying than hurting. took ibuprofen about 30 minutes ago, didn t help much.

GERD (gastro oesophageal reflux disease) can cause chest discomfort in many patients. I would advice against taking ibuprofen for such pain as it may aggravate the pain. Ibuprofen is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug that can contribute to gastric ulcers and worsen the GERD symptoms.
I would recommend you to take adequate medications for GERD. You may need a long term course of proton pump inhibitor like pantoprazole and may be taken with pro kinetic agents like domperidone. And would also advice lifestyle modifications like sleeping on left side, avoiding spicy foods.
Do discuss the above options with your physician and avoid ibuprofen for pain due to GERD. Would also advice an EKG to rule out any cardiac issues. I hope the above information helps you. Thank you very much for writing into healthcaremagic.
