Is Micro Vascular Decompression Surgery Advisable For Trigeminal Neuralgia?

Hi, I have a 20 year old daughter who has been diagnosed with trigeminal neuralgia . We just came back from Johns Hopkins last night .Dr. Michael Lim is going to perform the microvascular decompression surgery the week after nest. His concern was that the benign cyst which was spotted on the MRI in 2013 could have become active and hence causing the additional pain. I was trying to do some research and prepare ourselves for the surgery. How can you help me with this problem?

Hi..
Can understand your concern..

As per your complain Microvascular decompression also known as Jannetta Procedure is a neuro surgical procedure and is used to relieve compression over the Trigeminal nerve which is fifth crani nerve and it is the nerve of face and any abnormity associated with it causes Trigeminal Neuralgia..

Microvascular Decompression is relatively successful procedure with a long duration of success rate as compared to other procedures for treating Trigeminal Neuralgia..

You need not to worry and carry on with the treatment as described by your doctor and and follow the instructions given to you by your doctor for the betterment of your daughter..

Hope this information helps..
