Is Memory Loss A Symptom Of Dementia?

Hello and thank you for providing this service!
I have a dear friend who is clearly experiencing memory loss. Her mother is as well. I did not realize this was a serious matter until I did some brief research on dementia. My question is, how do I talk to my friend about getting some help for this? She is used to being extremely independent and active in her community.

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have dementia. Well there can be many reasons for symptoms you mention in query , but in your case the symptoms are probably due to dementia . I would suggest you to consult neurologist for proper examination and treatment . In dementia associated with advancing age drugs like cholinergic drugs are used. Donepezil is one of commonly drug used for dementia. The drug helps to improve cognitive functions and prevent the progression of memory impairment. Memantin is also used in dementia. Cognitive enhancers as Piracetam is also one of commonly used drug for dementia. If this is not age related then there can be other reasons like side effects of certain medicine which are reversible . Vitamin E supplements, Omega 3 Fatty Acids are also useful in dementia.

Hope your concern has been resolved.

Best Wishes,
