Is Medical Attention Required After Choking On Food?

What are some side effects after someone chokes? My husband drank some tea and started coughing. He massaged to pull off highway and said my name and started shaking. I put truck in park. He stopped shaking and passed out. I jumped on the back seat and put my arms under his and started thrusting upwards. It took 4 times and he came to and started coughing. He dosent remember any of this. He felt nausea afterwards and he s sore where I did the upward thrust. Does he need to see a doctor?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

Choking develops when something like foodstuff sticks in the upper airway. As the object has been expelled, nothing much to worry.

During choking, the oxygen supply to the brain will be lost and that’s why he could not remember the incident. As of now no treatment is required. He can try warm saline gargles for symptomatic relief.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shinas Hussain,
