Is Massage Recommended For Benign Fasciculation Syndrome?

I am enquiring as to whether massage will help to relieve the symptoms of Benign Fasciculation Syndrome. I have a client who is a high endurance athlete who is suffering from this disorder at present. He has an event in 8 weeks which he is training for (Three Peaks Challenge. He drinks 9 cups of coffee a day, in on a daily exercise regime. Caffeine consumption obviously has to be reduced. I amlooking into magnesium depletion and diet, fluid intake and loss of electrolytes, and possibly the fact that his muscles are fatiqued with training. Before i treat i am doing research as i do not wish to do any damage. Any assistance would be really appreciated. Thank you, Angeselle Cornwall UK

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

BFS is known to be aggravated with coffee and excessive exercises. There is no permanent cure for it however it can be reduced if you can avoid the triggers, a few mentioned above and also by reducing the anxiety level of your client. Massage is not contraindicated however it doesn't help the disease.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
