Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have a low wbc count of 2.9. Seven months ago, during my routine physical, it was tested at 3.0 and then again at 4.0. It seems to be jumping around the 3 s a lot, but I don t feel particularly bad and have had no real sickness othet than being a bit tired. I just completed another blood test and am awaiting results. Should I be worried?
Hello dear Understand your concern. WBC is white blood cell produced by bone marrow. Protective cell, fight against infection and provide immunity. So any factor that damage the bone marrow affects its level Normal count : 3.5-10.5 X 10 9/L
Following are the causes of Low WBC count Viral infections that temporarily disrupt the work of bone marrow Cancer that damage bone marrow Autoimmune disorders Severe infections that use up white blood cells faster than they can be produced Medications, such as antibiotics, that destroy white blood cells Sarcoidosis Aplastic anemia Chemotherapy Radiation therapy HIV/AIDS Tuberculosis (and other infectious diseases) Leukemia Lupus Rheumatoid arthritis and other autoimmune disorders Malnutrition and vitamin deficiencies
Hope this may help you. Best regards Dr, sagar
