Is Long Working Hours OK For A Pregnant Woman And The Baby?

Should I talk to my doctor about my work hours? I m 18 weeks and 4 days pregnant. I just started new working hours. 4am-6:30pm Monday-Friday. I also work weekends. 5 hours Saturday and 5 hours Sunday. So far I have no days off. I am on my feet sometimes but not all the time. It is a office job. Is it okay for the baby? And it is okay for the baby that i don t get a lot of sleep with my work hours? I get off at 6:30pm but when I get home I have to get stuff ready and eat and shower...so I end up going to be around 10pm...and I have to wake up at about 3am. I also wake up 3-4 times a night

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Thanks for asking a question at HCM

I will be glad to answer it for you.

This is not absolutely okay in pregnancy. You have to have at least 8 hrs of sleep at night, and at least 2 hrs of bed rest in the afternoon.

All the effects will be impacted on baby's growth. So, you need to talk about this to your office management.

As the pregnancy progresses you need to rest more even.

Hope this helps!

Best Regards

Dr Chaithanya
