Is Liver Enzyme Test Influenced By Alcohol ?

I recently had an ALT score of 74 on a liver enzyme test. Could this test be influenced by alcohol? The test was performed on a Tuesday afternoon after a night of pretty heavy drinking Saturday into the early morning hours of Sunday. I am a 25 year old male in otherwise good health. Thanks for your help!

Hi,

Elevation of liver enzymes can be related to alcohol but it is unlikely that the elevation will be seen the day after alcohol intake. These enzyme levels reflect liver function over the last few months. Your enzyme level is no doubt elevated but the elevation is not significant. Usually levels above three times of normal are considered significant. There is no need to worry but you need to keep an eye on your alcohol intake and liver function.

Best wishes.
