Is Leukemia A Heriditary Disease?

dear dr.
me name is alex. Some months ago my boyfriend told me that he has been ill with leukemia since 19 years (now he is 23). he says he passes blood transfusions once a year.though he smokes and takes alcohol. He's got too little information about it.first he said he had this procedure to pass in june.now he says in july. sometimes i think he lies. I wonder if it is possible leukemia to pass to his children, and may this disease return after treatment.

sincerely alex v.

Welcome to H.C.M.
I want to say you that there is risk to develop leukemia in you children. There are lot of causes for leukemia but peoples with a family history of leukemia are also at higher risk.Treatment and disease free episodes of patient depends on type of leukemia.Ask about type of leukemia from your boyfriend.
I suggest you for your boy friend that he should completely quit smoking and alcohol for long survival of his life.Always welcome for further questions.
Thanx for query.
