Hello,
Thank you for your query.
Hydrosalpinx is a fluid collection within the
fallopian tube. Normally, the tube has small hair like structures that push fluid through it.
When there is a blockage in the tube, this may result in collection within the tube.
The ovulated egg that is released from the ovary, travels through the fallopian tube, where it is fertilized by the sperm, then moves into the
uterus to be implanted, where the embryo/fetus remains for the next 38 weeks.
A Hydrosalpinx can be caused by an infection,
Endometriosis, scarring from a previous
abdominal surgery. This leads to tube blockage and prevents travel of egg through it, hindering fertilization and hence
pregnancy.
Depending on the cause of the Hydrosalpinx a treatment plan will be formulated.
Other than an infection, other causes will not complicate a pregnancy.
It may, however, reduce your chances of getting pregnant slightly. There are situations where the egg released from the left ovary can be picked by the right tube and result in a pregnancy.
I recommend that you get treated for the infection (with antibiotics) , if present, and then carry on the Iui. Try for 3-4 cycles. If you do not get pregnant, I would suggest the
laparoscopy to improve your chances of pregnancy.
Hope this helps.
Please let me know if there is anything else I can help you with.
Wish you good health and hope you conceive soon.
