Is Lactogen Sufficient For A Child Deprived Of Breast Milk? What Should His Normal Sleep And Diet Pattern Be?

I have a 8 day old new born son. Initially the pedeatrician advised us to give him lactogen as i was not producing enough breast milk post CS. However, even though he is latching and sucking from me he is irritable and quiets down only after he is given lactogen. He is supposed to eat every two hours but he sleeps straight through and doesnot drink breast milk and only drinks lactogen provided with a spoon. I am really scared that he is missing out on his nutritional needs if he is not taking breast milk. Please suggest

Hi,
Thanks and welcome to HCM.
Breast milk is best milk.
Worry and tension that you not are producing enough milk actually reduces milk production
Continue giving breast milk whether sufficient or not along with Lactogen.
Baby is expected to gain 30grams/day from 15 the day onwards if the feeding is sufficient.
Baby needs 150ml of milk/kg body weight. In the newborn period 8-10 feeds are necessary depending on the babies stomach capacity.
Hope this answer serves your purpose.
Please feel free to ask any more queries if needed.
