Hi, my father is addicted to chewing tobacco and he really gets close to my 8 month old niece while chewing tobacco and even kisses her.. My niece is prematured born baby. Is it harmful for her?? How should I avoid the situation? As my father ignores it completely!!

Hi,

Tobacco causes problems if it's smoke is inhaled like smoking with cigarettes or passive smoking (this may occur if someone smokes in front of you or sitting near to you, or in the room, where you can inhale the smoke even when you are not smoking, this is called passive smoking, this may cause problems.)

Another way that tobacco cause problems are if someone ingests it like chewing. As in your case neither there is any passive smoking to the child, nor there is any ingestion so there are no problems if he kisses the child. Yes, make it sure he does not smoke or puffs around the kid.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
