Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Is It True That The Bleeding From The Arteries And Veins Be Stopped By Burning?
If you are in a serious accident and your hand has been accidentally amputated and the bleeding severe, I was told that if I would have put the end of my arm into the fire, it would have helped close off the bleeding arteries and veins? Is this true, because I lost alot of blood before the emt s got to me. I was burned on about 30% of my body.
Burning/fire will damage the the vessels and other structure around the affected area.permanent loss of the body part will occur. if any bleeding from blood vessels internally (within the body covered with skin) you should apply ice pack on that area covered with any cloth. So there will be vaso constriction ( vessel wall will constrict and reduce the bleeding)
if it is external bleed should arrest the bleed by the following 3 steps;
Rest: immobilize the affected area. minimal movement allowed if necessary Elevation:only for hands,leg,head bleeding keep above the heart level.that will reduce the flow of blood. Direct pressure: apply a cloth ( preferably sterile gauze piece ) and give direct pressure on it to arrest the bleed.
Thank you
Hope i answered your query.
