Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My baby (15 months) got a rocephin injection to treat a UTI today. She is also on other antibiotics for 7 days. She s had a fever off and on for about 6 days. She had a fever again today. One of the side effects of the injection states fever. She has a high fever right now (got injection 5 hours ago). Should I be concerned or is it just residual fever?
if her body temperature was measured and recorded objectively and the records showed a decreasing pattern or trend then we should not be too concerned since her medication appears to be working. BUT if the temperature spikes upward after her medication is given then probably the fever is drug related . however if her temperature continues to swing in spite of adequate antibiotic cover takin correctly over the recommended period the consider either RESISTANCE to that particular treatment schedule , inappropriate or incorrect drug prescription for that particular illness or in fact the presence of an abscess or hidden Indus if infection. so if you have checked the temperature with the correct equipment and it still remains high the it is time to review the diagnosis , the medications and the compliance to the treatment.
