Is It Safe To Use Mosquito Repellent Where 9 Year Old And 18 Months Kids Sleep?

Good afternoon doctor, My question is whether it is safe to use a mosquito liquid repellant in the bedroom where my 9 year old son and 18 months old baby girl sleep ? If yes, what is the correct position for the repellant to be fixed ? Thanks & regards, Bevil

Dear patient.
Greetings from health care magic!!! I am Dr Thakker and shall be answering your question.

As a concerned father, I understand your question very well. I will try my best to answer it and guide you through.

You need to check the ingredients in the repellent you are using at home. Some contain chemicals like DEET, while others have oil of citronella or eucalyptus which are natural. Insect repellents containing DEET should not be used on children under 2 months of age. Oil of lemon eucalyptus products should not be used on children under 3 years of age.

When applying insect repellents to children, avoid their hands, around the eyes, and cut or irritated skin. Do not allow children to handle insect repellents. When using on children, apply to your own hands and then put it on the child. After returning indoors, wash your child’s treated skin or bathe the child. Clothes exposed to insect repellents should be washed with soap and water.

I hope this helps you out. If you have any more questions, please do not hesitate to write back to me.

Yours sincerely,
Dr Thakker.
