hi i have some occasional pimples sprouting few days before my periods...i never pick them so they don't leave scars but i get hyper pigmented spots on those areas i was given cosmelite by a doc but im a little hesitant to use it on my face as it has a steroidal content-mometasone.....is it ok to use steroid on my face since i just have few spots on my face
Hello. Thanks for writing to us at healthcaremagic
This cream is not the right treatment choice for post-acne hyperpigmentation(PIH) as it contains a potent steroid, mometasone furote, which may exacerbate acne, if used regularly. For post acne hyperpigmentation I usually ask my patients to use either Azaleic acid Or Kojic acid Or glycolic acid, twice daily. These ingredients inhibit new melanin synthesis and hence lightens the spots; glycolic acid in addition is exfoliating and therefore sheds already existing pigment. These products are non-comedogenic and so will not exacerbate acne. You may also opt for a few sessions of chemical peeling from your dermatologist. I would suggest that you visit a dermatologist who would assess the condition and prescribe accordingly.
Regards
