Is It Safe To Use Bricanyl Turbuhaler After Suffering From Massive Heart Attack?
My question is for the Bricanyl Turbuhaler. My Husband (61yrs) has used this medication in the past but late March he had a massive heart attack and is on numerous medications, we monitor his B.P and pulse daily which are controlled by meds. B.P average 100/60 and pulse 72. Heart rhythm steady. He is also on Warfarin. Is it ok to use Bricanyl now.
It is generally safe to use a beta agonist in such situation... Bricanyl, of late, has not been in favour by many / there are other good and approved alternatives... Discuss with your doctor

Hi, Bricanyl may not be good for him now and needs to be changed. One important reason, that I say this is ,that bricanyl increases the heart rate and can predispose to arrythmias especially in a previously damaged heart ,as is the case here.Even otherwise it increases the heart rate and hence the oxygen demand of the heart increases. This will create increase in the supply demand difference which can again lead to angina or a heart attack.Bricanyl can interact with other cardiac drugs also. Many newer and better alternatives are available for him and can be changed over to ,after consultation with your doctor.
