Hence it is given to all pregnant women during the first 12 weeks of pregnancy to prevent them. Allylestrenol is a progesterone analogue. Progesterone is a hormone important to maintain pregnancy and prevent abortions. Its use is not advocated in fact not needed if there is no risk. It is used in women having symptoms of threatened abortion or in those that have had abortions and preterm labor earlier or have high risk pregnancies.
