Is It Safe To Take Tramadol After Wisdom Tooth Extraction?

My 24 yr old daughter had surgery to remove 4 impacted wisdom teeth 6 days ago. Finished her prescription of hydrocodone yesterday and is still in a great deal of pain. She has alternated between ibuprofen and tylenol today and has not been able to get relief. She sees her oral surgeon tomorrow. We know this is not protocol, but are wondering if she could safely take one Tramadol 50 mg right now? She also takes 20 MG fluoxetine daily and birth control pills.t

Hi..
Can understand your concern..

As per your complain pain after 6 days of wisdom tooth extraction is not an uncommon finding and in case if you have severe pain a stronger pain killer is advisable..

Hydrocodone or Tramadol both are narcotic painkillers and taken in case of severe pain and you can take either of the two in case of severe pain..
As you have already taken hydrocodone and you found relief with it you can even take Hydrocodone till you see your dentist as in case of pain he will also continue with the same treatment for some more time..

But one thing that you should take care that as these are narcotic painkillers and taking for a very long duration can cause addiction so you must keep it in mind while taking the medicines and as soon as pain is relieved the medicine should be withdrawn..

So you can take either hydrocodone or tramadol and both will help you in relieving pin..

Hope this information helps..
