Is It Safe To Take Statins To Control BP Levels?

I have just received the results from wearing a 24 hour blood pressure monitor My blood pressure is 184/84. I try to live a healthy lifestyle, exercise regularly and eat a healthy diet. However, my brother and sister do have heart problems, despite the fact my brother runs further than I do each day. I would prefer not to take medication, although I have recently been told I need to take statins. Can I avoid taking further medication:

Hi, I had gone through your question and understand your concerns.

Let me assure you that a B.P of 184/84 can be easily kept under control with a change in lifestyle.
Since you do have a family history of heart problems , you are definitely susceptible to having one.
Do not worry.
I can certainly help you.

I would suggest you to
- Avoid oily food
- Have a balanced diet with loads of vegetables and fruits
- Drink loads of water
- Regularly exercise for 30 minutes a day.

Statins are not for controlling blood pressure. They are lipid lowering agents .If your doctor has advised you statin after looking at your EKG or lipid profile, start taking it . It will prevent you from getting a heart attack( acute myocardial infarction).

Hope this answers your question. If you have additional questions or follow up questions then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your questions.

Wishing you good health.
