Is It Safe To Take Omega 3 Fatty Acid Along With Olanzapine For Schizophrenia?

Hi Dr.I am taking olanzapine 10mg for schizophrenia about 10yrs. I am 31yrs old male.I have gained weight.Also now developed skin allergy I dont know about red rashes after itching and disappear after sometime.I did not asked my psychiatrist. I asked other health care they says that it can be allergy.I also want to take omega-3 fatty acid supplement.Is it safe. And also can I consume like 1 bottle of beer some time.I would like to hear from you.Thank you.

Hi,

There is no documented evidence of any harmful interactions between omega-3 fatty acids and the antipsychotic drug olanzapine hence they may be taken together.

However, consuming beer while on olanzapine may cause profound drowsiness, dizziness, confusion, difficulty concentrating, impaired thinking, gait disturbances, falls and injuries.

You should avoid or limit the use of beer while taking olanzapine and also avoid driving, operating machines or swimming.
