Is It Safe To Take Lo Loestrin Fe Pills To End The Periods?

I am 53, non-smoker, and my doctor prescribed Lo Loestrin Fe birth control to end my periods. I sometimes have heavy and non-regular periods or overlapping menstrual times... sometimes only 2 weeks in between. I am not sexual active. Does the risk out way the benefit. In the long run, would it be healthier for me to just continue without the birth control?

Hi,
I understand your concern.
Lo Loestrin Fe is a hormonal preparation (very low dose) with iron. It is basically a contraceptive pill,sometimes also used to regulate/ reduce excessive bleeding in menstruation.
You are already 53, sexually non active- your symptoms are mostly pre menopausal.The pills do not end the periods,it will just regularize it & in way will obstruct process of menopause.
I feel you should take the course given & then let the nature act . Excessive bleeding can be controlled by drugs like CVP gynae / mefanemic acid preparations 7 rest.
