Is It Safe To Take Cefolax And Metrogyl For Frequent Bowel Movement During Pregnancy?

Hello, My wife is seven months pregnant (EDD-20/11/15). She is presently taking two medicines Selcel 500 for calcium and RB Tone XT for iron. Of late she is complaining of frequent bowel movement and pain near the navel. On consulting a new Doctor (as we are out of station), he prescribed Sefoclox-XL (twice daily 10 tabs), Metrogyl 400 (15 tablets), Adilin SR (10 tabs) and Arbex NS SP (1). Now, I want to know whether those medicines prescribed by the Doctor are absolutely necessary and are they safe to intake during pregnancy without any side effects. Please help..

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
I understand your concern.
It is always better to avoid medications in any form during pregnancy.
However, some of the drugs are marked safe that could be taken during pregnancy. Only such drugs can be taken.
If your wife is having bowel movements and pain due to infection, then she would take what has been prescribed.
It is advisable to get her evaluated by a Gynecologist before proceeding on these medications.
Hope the information provided would be helpful.
All the best.
