Is It Safe To Take Aleve For Severe Joint Pain?

My husband, 78, lost a kidney to renal cell carscinoma 16 years ago. He has had high blood presure-controlled now but had a stroke last year. He has moderate to severe joint pain and would love to take naproxin. He has been advised not to take ibuprofen. Can he take Aleve (naproxin)?

Hi,
Naproxen belongs to the same category as Ibuprofen i.e. NSAIDS. These drugs are not given in patients suffering from Kidney ailments or diabetics in whom nephropathy is seen. In case of your husband, he had stroke and renal cell carcinoma, so the drug is contraindicated. Kindly refer your family doctor for the pain medication.
