Is It Safe To Switch To Glycomet From Metformin?

I am turning 50 by end of this March 2015. I have been diagnosed as diabetics for 6 months now. I am on some metformin medicine that i should take regularly. Ever since, i have changed my food habits and start walkin on treadmills regularly. I was told about Glycomet gp1 or 2 will help rather than metformin. I was told to take black seed sugar powder as well. My question is can i switch to glycomet from metformin. what about the side effects. does black seed help reduce blood sugar level?

Hello,

I can't advise you about switching to glycomet, because although you could, I can't judge whether it is necessary or not. If for example you've got a very low glucosylated hemoglobin and blood glucose then there is no reason to do so and you might experience hypoglycemia too! If your glucose control is not very close to adequate then adding a second drug (using glycomet instead of metformin alone) might help. The glucosylated hemoglobin is a very good way to judge that.

Sometimes more than one drug might be needed for good glucose control.

Regarding the black seed: do not rely too much on the black seed because it won't help you. Stick to a healthy diet plan and physical activity program, take your drugs as instructed and your blood sugar control will improve!

I'll be glad to give you more specific advice when you provide the necessary details (glucosylated hemoglobin, glucose self measurements etc).

Kind Regards!
