Hi,

Nexium, Esomprazole is a proton pump inhibitor which decrease the gastric acid secretion. It is prescribed in gastritis, duodenitis, GERD and in gastric and duodenal ulcer where the secretion of gastric acid to be controlled to control the damage to the mucosa of the organ. The stomach is protected with mucous layer to prevent the acidic injury. Prolonged fasting, spicy and fatty food are some of the diet that increases the gastric acid secretion which results in damage of the protective mucous layer in the stomach.

Caffeine in coffee and tea relaxes the lower esophageal sphincter thereby results in reflux of gastric contents into the esphagus which leads to esophagitis. Cintapro contains Cintapride which is prokinetic agent that protects the esophagus from gastric contents by improving the strength of the sphincter. Endoscopy helps to confirm the level of damage. Visit the gastroenterologist for further evaluation and management.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Pradeepraj, General & Family Physician
