Is It Safe To Stop Intake Of Diltiazem Cold Turkey?

Are there any risks to just stopping ditalizem? Take for afib but it gives me chest tightness and a mild headache. Echo and stress test normal. Bp is also normal. Any risks? Feel the side effects are out weighing any small benefit at this point... thanks

Hi! Welcome to health care magic!

Based on the history you have shared, in the setting of Afib, the side effects you have mentioned are being over weighed than the risks of leaving diltiazem. If you are feeling such side effects which are making taking diltiazem intolerable for you then you need to discuss with your cardiologist for a replacement. Such replacements can be in form of digoxin or beta blockers. Chest tightness that you have mentioned also needs to be evaluated with fresh ECG and cardiac enzymes and shouldn't be taken light.Keep a check on pulse for rate and rythm regularly. Also discus need of blood thinners if Afib is persistant with your doctor. Hoping you a speedy recovery. If you have any more questions, feel free to ask. Regards.
